Charleston! (Logan's 1st Post!!!)

Hey this is Logan! So Abby has been trying to get me to try this blogging thing for the longest time. I always told her that she would regret letting me write a blog, but since Abby went shopping tonight I figured I would give it a try just to see what blogging is all about. This is my first (hopefully not my last) post so we'll see how it goes...

Abby and I were able to get a day off on Monday and go exploring down south. We went to Charleston and Folly Beach. We had an absolute blast! I think it was my favorite thing we have done here in South Carolina so far. This is the tale of our adventures.

This is a sweet shot out our moon roof going over the bridge into the city (it is the longest cable supported bridge in North America, I believe).

There is a park down at the water front where you can play in the fountains. Abby didn't let me play and get all wet, so we have a picture of this cute little girl playing in the water instead of me. I was jealous!

Here is us on the pier looking back on the city.

This place was cool! It's one of the last buildings built by the British before we kicked them out. It was also Cornwallis' headquarters for a time during the Revolution and where they kept political prisoners (I think it is funny that they named the dungeon "provost." Sometimes it feels that way there, but I guess provost is just an old word for a local government officer). It is also where the State of South Carolina ratified the Constitution and become the 8th state. George Washington also hosted 4 parties in the upper hall when he toured the southern states in 1791. Cool stuff!

The Great Hall where "Washington danced with hundreds of women," and one of the Knot.com's top places to have a wedding (historians have to pay the bills somehow).

The Dungeon! They used this at one time to keep pirates before they were hung and later for political prisoner during the the Revolution (they kept 50-60 people in a 20x50ft space), I think 4 of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence were down in this dungeon for a time during the war.
Interesting fact: Charleston is the location of the most successful pirate campaign. Black Beard and his fleet of 8 ships blocked off the bay, ransacked a 9 ships, and held the city for ransom for 5 or 6 days till the city gave them medical supplies then they left. None of them saw this dungeon during that trip, but cool fact nonetheless.

After all the history and beauty of Charleston we went down south to Folly Beach and went to a place Abby saw featured on Food Network, Taco Boy! They had the best fish tacos I have ever had! A bit pricey, but tasty!!!

We then went to the beach and played in the sand. This is a picture of "art." I made a large spiral and then we had a race to the center leaving a cool set of foot prints (this is as close to making art as I can get. Art=Game to me).

This is us at the end of our adventure at the Folly Beach Pier.

I made it to the end of my first blog!!! If Abby never lets me write a blog again I hope that you all enjoyed it, and are making your own adventures!

surfing adventure

Yes, that's right! We had our very first surfing lessons for FREE (one of the many perks of working where we work- Plantation Resort). It's been awesome getting to experience so many different things in the short weeks we've been here AND most of them have cost us little to no money at all. Working in the hospitality business is very, very nice! So far, we've been to the Ripley's Aquarium for FREE, Ripley's Mirror Maze & Moving Theatre for $10, Medieval Times (so fun) for $30, and now...SURFING LESSONS!

It was so fun. A member of the bishopric in our Myrtle Beach ward was the surfing instructor. He did an awesome job. Logan and I learned pretty quickly and we were able to get up a few times. Go us!

night owl

Wow! I am quite the night owl. It's approximately 1AM and I am wide awake on the living room couch (while my poor husband fell asleep on the floor while attempting to stay up with me)! I just finished writing a paper for yet another graduate class....yes, it was due tonight. It only took me 2 hours. Not bad for a 1,300 word requirement, huh? My motto: "Once a procrastinator, always a procrastinator....you just never seem to go back!" Trust me, I've tried to defeat my procrastinating ways but there is just no hope for me. I try and try, but I put everything off until the last minute especially papers. Maybe I'm just one of those "thrive under-pressure" kind of person. Who knows? Anyway, I just wanted to separate my blog postings with a no photo post....haha please tell me someone else does this?

I've been meaning to write about this for awhile but I keep hesitating because it is a little personal and rather long. I'm not one to divulge my inner thoughts to many people, let alone a public blog. I've been thinking a lot lately about what I want to be when I grow up (granted, I am almost a 23 year old woman). It baffles me sometimes to think that I am almost to the point where I can finally say I am what I always pictured myself being....but then I get stuck because then I realize I'm still growing and still have all these things I want to experience!!!

So, here's the question....when do you officially stop asking yourself "what am I going to be when I grow up?" I had a fellow co-worker ask me that one day, but then he quickly said "oh wait, you already are grown up!" I was a little surprised. When did I ever stop growing up? Seriously! I'm still trying to figure out what I want to..... be/do/make/happen/etc. When did YOU stop asking yourself that question "what am I going to be when I grow up?" The truth, for me at least, is that I always want to be able to answer that question! I always want to be able to give an answer. We are always going to have the opportunity to be whoever/whatever we want to be. The choice is ours. No matter how difficult, stressful, and scary it might be....we all have the ability to change our minds, start over, and/or begin a completely new path.

Here's a real-life example:

at Age 5: "What do you want to be when you grow up, Abby?"
Me: "A doctor, so I can help you mom when you are old and sick"

at Age 10: "What do you want to be when you grow up, Abby?"
Me: "A famous movie star, duh!"

at Age 15: "What do you want to be when you grow up, Abby?"
Me: "A journalist, so I can write whenever I want"

at Age 20: "What do you want to be when you grow up, Abby?"
Me: "Umm. I don't know yet. I'm still in college. I have lots of time to decide"

CURRENTLY at Age 22: "What do you want to be when you grow up, Abby?"
Me: "That's a great question! I want to be lots of things...a good wife, a good teacher, a good sister/sister-in-law, a good listener, a good mother, a good friend, a good daughter/daughter-in law, and just a good person in general"

I know. It's a lot of things to want to be at the mere age of 22, but I seriously want to be ALL of them. I don't care how long it will take me.

That's what I want to be when I grow up.

Enough said.

July 4th Weekend (late post, I know)

Our July 4th weekend was a blast! Yay! It was pretty low-key, but that's just what the Corbett's are all about. Go us!

We spent Saturday at an Italian Festival at this cute little area called Market Commons. It was so fun walking around and seeing all the fun tents set up with different Italian memorabilia. Logan and I shared an Italian Meatball Sub for lunch and then we each got some Italian ice. YUMMMY! Then, Logan took me to watch Eclipse (yeah, I know...but trust me when I say this one was way better than the previous two). Later that night, we went down to the beach to light some fireworks with the other summer interns. It was quite an adventure since it was rather windy on the beach and just imagine 5 people trying to get a match to stay lit....need I say more? Plus, we took some incredible jumping pictures on the beach (my speciality, of course)!

Sunday, on the actual 4th of July, we went to church and had our good friends, Adrian & Maddison, over for lunch. We spent the rest of the afternoon at home relaxing. It was nice. Later that night, we decided to hit the beach for more fireworks and, boy, did we see fireworks. It was crazy. I have never seen so many fireworks in my life. People were shooting off fireworks right in front of us. It felt like we were in a war zone. No joke. If you haven't watched fireworks from the beach yet, I highly recommend it. It's fantastic.
