Croup is Poop

A few weeks ago, Hud got sick. It started with a fever - low grade (between 100 - 101), then a runny nose, and then a cough started. It was like this for about 2-3 days until one morning he woke up wheezing really bad. He sounded like a baby seal. I called the doctor's office and was able to get him in fairly early in the day.

We saw the nurse, but he wanted NOTHING to do with her. He started crying which made his wheezing worse and he threw up twice. The doctor came in and immediately ordered a nebulizer and oral steroids to open up his airway since he was having difficulty breathing. Of course all the equipment comes in and he is hysterical because he does NOT want the nurse to touch him or have anything on his face (nebulizer) or to take any medicine. I calm him down a bit and was finally able to get the nebulizer on which helped a ton. He started to relax and his breathing got significantly better. They gave him the oral steroids and we did the nebulizer for another 20 minutes.

The doctor diagnosed him with a moderate case of croup.

It was a scary experience. He has never been that sick before. They ordered us home with a prescription, and said if he got worse he needed to go to the ER. Fortunately, that ER visit never happened. We just stayed at home for a few days monitoring his temperature, putting water in his humidifier, doing steam showers, administering medication, checking on him while he slept, and watching a lot of movies.

Thankfully, he was much better after about a week. Because of all the sickness, the whole bottle weaning went down the drain! He wasn't eating very much food, so the only thing he was getting while sick was milk (in a bottle) and water. We are going to try again starting next week now that Logan and I are feeling better too (yep, we both ended up getting colds).

I hope no one ever gets croup or have to deal with a child that has it. It's no fun.

This makes me all the more excited for summer to come. We need to get out of this sick season once and for all!

This was a common scene. Sleeping in mom and dad's bed.

And falling asleep on the couch while watching shows on the iPad.

Lots of coloring happened too.

This was the first night he slept soundly after days.
Must have been because dad let him pick out his jammies.

Secret

Our secret is out! :)

We are really excited to have baby #2 join our family. I've been feeling great (no morning sickness at all - I'm one of the lucky ones). But I've been super tired this time around, so I usually take naps when Hudson naps during the day and I try to get to bed early most nights.

I'm almost 10 weeks along, and the baby is looking great!
We feel so blessed.

Also, second pregnancies do not mess around - I'm already showing (pics to come). In the meantime, check out our little bean:

I think it's another boy, but my mothering instincts weren't right the first time so we'll see.

Snow Day

Raleigh weather is totally weird. It was sunny and a high of 65 degrees one day and then the very next day we woke up to snow! It was crazy. We even had church canceled the next day. Hud loved playing in the snow. It was so cute watching him run around, eat the snow, and just play.

thanks to Grammy Corbett for the winter coat he got for Christmas
so glad we finally got to use it!

This snow storm also happened during the same weekend my parents came down to visit. It was so fun having them here. My mom cooked us a few meals - Hudson acted like a starving child each time my mom gave him something to eat. He loves his Asian food! We also went downtown to grab pizza and see the NC Museum of Natural Science one day. Hudson loved all the attention. My dad would clap and cheer about every little thing Hud did: make an animal sound, eat all his lunch, etc. We can't wait until they come back down again to visit; hopefully next time my siblings can make it too.

Master(s) in the House

We had quite a few things to celebrate this month. Namely, the fact that Logan got into the highly competitive Master's in Analytics program at NC State University right here in Raleigh. Last year, he was wait-listed. They said if there was any movement, he would get a shot. Unfortunately, it didn't happen so we waited another year. Logan continued working and gaining experience. He took classes, took on data projects for work, and honed his skills to prepare to re-apply. And, the second time around? HE GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of him! He totally wanted this, and worked so hard to reach his goal. He starts in June. It's a 10 month intensive master's program - about 50-60 hours a week. He'll get SAS certified, gain valuable insights into data mining, and have lots of career placement opportunities.

The program has a 97% career placement; most graduates get 2+ job interviews and/or job offers. It's only open to 80 students a year, and there were so many applicants this time around. We feel so blessed that Logan was given this opportunity, and it helps that Logan is very ready to start the program! He is thrilled, and I am too.

Looks like we will be having two masters in the house (I recently completed everything for my Master's degree) come April 2014. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but we're always up for some friendly competition around here. :)

Officially part of the Wolfpack. NC State style. Not Twilight style.

Date night eating at The Pit - super great, classic BBQ place in downtown Raleigh.
What a great time celebrating V-Day, finally getting my Master's degree, and Logan getting into graduate school!
