grateful hearts

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Just because I think it is the underdog of holidays. Plus any excuse to eat food, chat around the dinner table, and eat pie is just perfect to me.

Well, this Thanksgiving had its fair share of highs and lows...

Thanksgiving 2011 Highlights
-playing in the Turkey Bowl (Logan)
-having two Thanksgiving dinners
-hearing our siblings fight over who gets to hold Hudson next
-cooking and baking with my mom (Abby)
-jumping in the raked leaves
-visiting with extended family and friends
-swimming at the Freedom Center
-figuring out that Hudson sleeps better on his stomach
-getting plenty of baby shoes and toys from Aunt Mary
-first Thanksgiving in VA and with immediate family in 6 years (Logan)
-staying up late watching Chopped with Tommy

Thanksgiving 2011 Lowlights
-car breaking down on the way to VA (rusted and broken subframe)
-being without a car for 5 days
-finding out car repair is about $2000
-coordinating travel plans to and fro while in VA
-having an emotional breakdown (Abby)
-hearing various opinions on how to take care of our baby
-carefully dividing time between families (because there is never enough time)
-crying baby on the drive home (stopped three times)
-finding out we left Logan's (work) laptop in his parents' car

So, as you can see this wasn't the best Thanksgiving for us. But we survived and have grateful hearts because even though we had plenty of setbacks we know how lucky blessed we truly are - because our car breaking down could have happened on the highway instead of in the parking lot of Tommy's college campus, because even though one of us had an emotional breakdown at least it wasn't both of us, because hearing different opinions about Hudson really shows how much everyone cares, and because dividing time between family is something we would rather do than not having any family to spend our time with.

  1. I love this post. You have such a great attitude Abby! I'm glad you had a thanksgiving full of highlights even if there were quite a few lowlights as well. I can totally relate when it comes time to trying to split the holiday time with family. It's hard - but definitely worth it to have such wonderful family members.
