We had a little car trouble getting to the base of the mountain, but luckily we were able to get there in one piece and camped at China Meadows for the night.
We woke up early the next morning. Had a quick breakfast and started on the trail. It is 11 miles up to Red Castle.
The whole gang
The actual hike went pretty well. We were keeping a good pace, stopping every now and then for breaks, and staying hydrated. The only downside was that it did start to rain at the very end of the hike (last mile or so), but it wasn't horrible.
Video: About 6 miles in.
Red Castle in all it's glory.
Video: We made it! Took us 5 hours.
And the sun came out as we were setting up camp!
The next few days we spent hiking up 2 more miles to a great fishing spot. We also played games in the tent, made dinner together, explored, and enjoyed the fresh air. It is so beautiful up at Red Castle.
Our dinner one night. It was tasty!
It was my second time going to Red Castle (first time was in 2008 when Logan and I were just dating). It was Logan's fourth time going up. We can't wait for Hudson and Amelia to be old enough so we can take them up too. It's such a soft spot for Logan as it holds so many good memories for him. I love love love trips like this! I love that Logan's family finds joy in doing hard, adventurous things (and how they recruit me to take part in them). They are the best kind of people! Being a Corbett is an adventure, that's for sure!
Made it back down! 22 miles in total!
(26 miles if you count hiking up to the upper lake for fishing)
Completely zonked out on the car ride back. Austin is such a sweet brother-in-law for snapping this photo -- not! ;)
And just for good measure, I found these old pictures from the last time we did Red Castle (2008). We were babies!

What a great experience! I love that you got to share it with Logan's siblings. Mike and I would love to plan another outdoor trip to Utah, and when we do, we will have to ask you for advice. 26 miles of hiking, way to go!
